Dexter cattle
We had a death in the family last week. The funeral was on Sat. So the wife and I drove the six hours to Sugar Grove Pa. On Friday.
We stayed with her brother, who raises a few cows for beef.
I spotted a few what I thought were some calf's grouped in on of the fields. The brother in law proceeds to tell me these were full grown. They are Dexter cows he says. They only get between 33" to 48" tall.
Has any one else heard of them? One of his had one a first place ribbon at one of the fairs out there.
At one point while we were there we went looking for a place to eat. We ended up in Jamestown. Thats New York by he way. The wife panicked a little, but thats another story.
He also educated me that all of the Angus beef that is eaten is not all angus cows. Apparently an Angus is an Angus based on the coloring. So an Angus might be a Herford with a certain degree of black on it.
Found this pick on line. The small one is a dexter.

Re: Dexter cattle
I've heard (or is it herd) of mini cows. For yuppy type wannabe farmers. More like a pet thing. Don't take up as much space, don't eat as much, don't shit as much, easier to handle. More like a hobby thing for rich people.
