Thread: No Hunting, perhaps?

Re: No Hunting, perhaps?
It's the old story of, "blame the other guy, because THAT doesn't affect ME."
Yeah, some hunters don't back CCW, or don't oppose mag cap bills, semi-auto bans, etc., because they think, "Well, I'm just a simple hunter out here with my turkey gun - THOSE things don't affect ME!" It's the old story of the slowly boiled frog - by the time the gummint will get DOWN to FEMA-camping the turkey hunter and his Remington 870, all the rest of us will be LONG GONE, who COULD'VE stood up FOR him.
I don't hunt, and never have - even as a kid growing up in rural NC. My dad didn't (accountant - He IS a Vet, though!), and I had no uncles, so I never learned. DID learn to shoot from him, & then through Scouting, and then the college gun-nut buddies , but it's my hobby, and now - in the big city - it's CCW and survival. Nothing AGAINST hunting - it's part of good game management, and I KNOW that; just never have gotten around to it.
But if hunter/sportman groups are for, or against, some piece of legislation, based on how it will impact them, I try to find out about it, and vote accordingly to support them, so they CAN keep up their hobby/livelihood/etc. I don't have a 'bad' view of them, like we often think they have a 'bad' view of us (doofus in his huting gear with shotgun in hand, supporting the OBAMINATION in that commerical this year, doesn't exactly 'endear' them to the rest of us, though...), but it sure would be nice, if the sportsmen stayed better informed about OUR needs, and we likewise in 'DA 'BURBS ('DA 'BURGH, 'DA... Philly? ), took an interest in the hunters' needs as well.
Why do I suddenly feel like Rodney King (or Jack Nicholson, in Mars Attacks? )?

Yet.....The O has stated many times that he is not happy with the Constitution and intends to "fix" the founding Fathers errors. With O, Harry and Nancy anyone think this won't happen ??
Brace yourself folks.....I urge all to join the NRA....NOW....TODAY !!!
It is very disheartening that with at least 70 million gunowners that the NRA has only somewhere between 4-5 Million. That's 7% at best !!! If 25-50% were members that would change things in a BIG WAY !!!!
Funny how in 1 day (Nov. 4, 2008) , things went from national CCW talk to Banning CCW. WTF????Last edited by PocketProtector; November 12th, 2008 at 11:22 AM.

"They" are quite capable of twisting things their way.
How about this for a first step: You can only buy(OR CARRY!) weapons or ammo mfg. in your own state because otherwise it is shipped "interstate" and can therefore be "regulated" by the federal govt. If you wish to challenge that we'll go to the new Supreme Court. (Which will have 2-4 new "enlightened" BO-appointed judges.)...they also tend to withhold various funds unless states "comply".

Calm down chief. I put 10 holes in paper all year. I never once placed myself above anyone for how they choose to use their firearms. What you do with your guns is your business. Mine are for hunting. That's a product of where I was raised. My point was that most of the people I know from 'back home' love their guns, but are of the perception that it isn't necessary for people to have black rifles and semi-auto handguns. Their perception is shaped by their environment. They don't vote because they don't think anything is going to happen to their hunting pieces, and they don't percieve much of a threat in the rural parts of the state.
I asked every one of the guys I talked to this past weekend, whether they trused the government enough to have weapons that we weren't allowed to have. The answer was a unianimous NO.
Hunters don't hate people who shoot their guns at paper or have them for home protection. Some just don't understand why you would have such a thing. It's all about perception and environment. I support the rights of all gun owners. You should know who you're calling out before making a statement that suggests I support an 'Us vs Them' mentality when it comes to gun ownership.Last edited by Buckmark.35; November 12th, 2008 at 11:39 AM.

Re: No Hunting, perhaps?
I have a taxidermy customer who lives down around suburbia and is lucky to have 20 acres. He and his 2 kids hunt on it too, about the last place down in that area with firearms discharges being legal. He doesn't quite understand the carry thing ( well it IS in MD LOL), but he is cool about it. However he doesn't carry on his land and in his house( except when hunting), and I worry about him- home invasions and all that crap being something on the rise in suburban areas. It's interesting to note that I may have influenced his son though. His son is 12 and this last spring some guy was in their woods calling for a dog. While dad went to talk to the guy, the boy went inside and put his bb gun under his jacket, then came back out to his dad and the guy. Not that a bb gun is going to fend an attack off, but I guess he thought if the guy who had been in the woods got weird, that the mere brandishing might scare him off. I let this boy shoot some pistols at my place once, this after I felt hot inside and took my overshirt off to just wear my t-shirt and revealed me wearing a shoulder holster. The kid's eyes got big. I think he was scared or startled, not sure, but when I let him shoot some guns he was great. Very safe and a good shot too. Have some hope for the younger generation! ( his teenage sister didn't want to shoot the guns, even though she hunts too- she was having a " 16 year old minute" or something LOL)
Now I have asked some of my other customers what they think about carry rights and all that, some don't seem interested, others then proceed to tell me about thier gun collections. One guy came back this season, with his buddy who was picking his bear up, and couldn't wait to tell me about the Bushmaster he just bought, and then he mentioned again how he could get a MD carry lisc because he is a pain specialist doctor and sometimes transports pain meds around. He came around again recently with a deer and told me about the barrel shortening for his semi auto MP5 and how he is still waiting after 6 months for the ATF approval.
On the other hand there ARE slob hunters around here. They are usually cheap bastards anyway, so I never see them in my studio LOL. Lately the usual bunch of them have been dumping deer parts in the same spots they dump them at year after year. Right next to the road, just plain stupid- I mean half a deer with haunches and backstraps removed, rack cut out if a buck, all the meat on the front wasted. The DNR probably will never do anything either, esp this year, they got budget cuts again. Bets are these deer are 100% poached too. One year these idiots dumped a raccoon they shot along with the deer. I thought it was a roadkill hit when scavenging, and I go get it and its got this bullet hole through it.LOL, I am a woman...

Re: No Hunting, perhaps?
The "One of us" remark I made to Buckmark was a bit much, I apologize for it. He did say he supports all gun owners rights. The point I was making, is that he does use his guns for more than hunting only. I wish those who had no use for guns other than hunting would think about that when they're at the range shooting paper.
