🚫A Lehigh County bridge is about to close due to structural failure
driving.gif
Commuters in Slatington will have to take detours for several years after the Walnut Street Bridge going over Trout Creek closes for replacement Monday.
PennDOT will likely need two to three years and about $7.5 million to replace the county-owned bridge, the components of which are failing structurally, according to a Lehigh County news release Wednesday.
Bids for construction will “tentatively” begin in December, the release added.
In the meantime, only the bridge’s west-side sidewalk will be open, and drivers will have to use the two-way Main and Church streets as detours. Drivers also can’t turn left onto Walnut Street from Main Street.
