I inherited a Stevens side-by-side that was rusted and had a dent in the barrel. I had it repaired but the gunsmith told me that spot was weak and it was not a great idea to shoot it regularly.

Without photos or anything to see what is going on with the dent, it's hard to provide any meaningful feedback.

All I can provide is anecdotal information. 10-15 years ago, a very nice hunting double of mine was leaning against the back of a pickup. Foolish, I know. Anyhow, somehow the truck was jostled, and the double slid down along the bumper and smacked the receiver hitch. The impact put a small dent in one barrel.

Since then, it's been fired -- fairly extensively.

Buckshot at deer (in NJ-where it's legal), high-brass #6 at pheasant, and a good bit of 7.5s and 8s at clay.

    No issues.

Thanks all, appreciate the variety of thoughts.

And cdi, that is an amazing price...I'd take you up on it but for the distance. I've seen $50 as typical.

Have to mull things over but it'll probably get shot with something, and if it gets damaged, chop it. The SBS idea is interesting but I think I could chop it and still stay 18"+, if I go that route...need to measure again if I do

Let me know if you change your mind. 50.00 is a bit much- depending on the dent, it takes 5 minutes and I'd do it right before your very eyes.

Chalfont is only a 2hr drive from Shamokin. Make a day of it. Have cdi fix your hurt and then go shopping at one of the many gun shops nearby.
