I*ve never had any issues like that hunting and having that sidearm ain*t gonna help if someone is pointing a rifle at you.

This is true, but that's not the only possible scenario, and having a handgun on you can't be a bad thing.

Also, I didn't think of this initially, but he wasn't open carrying it - unless he took his jacket off.
