Batter up! Metal detectors and other things to know ahead of Phils', Pigs' season

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Baseball's Opening Day is upon us. Both the Phillies and the IronPigs have to wait until Friday to kick things off.
With opening day comes a few changes, mainly to security.
"It's kind of a ritual of Spring for fans to come out enjoy the start of a new baseball season," Kurt Landes, the IronPigs' president and general manager, said.

It's the eve of a pair of Opening Days.
At Coca-Cola Park on Thursday afternoon, the IronPigs were taking batting practice ahead of Friday's first game.
"Thankfully, the weather is cleared, it's going to be sunny tomorrow," Landes said.
And as the Pigs' put the polishing touches on their game, here's what you need to know walking through those gates on Friday.
Brand new metal detectors will be greeting fans out front.
"From a security standpoint," Landes said, "make sure there's no contraband, anything from laser pointers to food and beverage; or mostly for search of weapons."
Landes says it won't add much time to your entrance inside. But you still might want to come a little earlier this year.
"Especially as we start to get the process underway," he said. "But, it should be relatively easy."
Landes says it'll be like going through airport security.
And for those of us heading to the Phillies' opener on Friday, there will be a new bag policy at Citizens Bank Park's gate.
Phils' fans can only bring one bag inside: either a clear bag of a certain size or a fanny pack or clutch around a half foot long and tall. Also, several bags are not allowed in, like backpacks and binocular cases. The full bag policy can be viewed here.
As for the Pigs, for now, you can still bring in any bags you want. But once you hit the metal detectors, bags will be checked.
"So we accept any type of bag, although it is subject to search as you enter the ballpark," Landes said.
A couple other things the IronPigs team wants to remind fans to remember ahead of Friday's game: ticketing is electronic, so make sure you have it ready on your phone. The entire park is cashless, so make sure you have your credit cards, your Apple Pay or other cash apps.
Friday's game at Coca-Cola Park starts at 6:05 p.m. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.

You can thank that scumbag that was the head of DHS years ago after sandy hook, he said every school/sporting event/concert/mall etc. will have detectors in a few years.
He owns the company that makes them.FJB

Pretty sure this what the Phillies use, and it's my understanding it is far from 100% and small weapons can/have gotten passed it
