There is a lot of info but it's mostly cable and fitting designations. Yes,you can definitely built that and set in attic. Drill a hole in wall top plate in attic, knock a hole in the wall for low voltage old-work style box, drop the cable down and connect it through a wall jack. You will definitely hear more and get out further than with the handheld antenna. You'll need the correct sma type cable for your radio to connect to wall. In my case it's a sma to BNC type jumper. I'll try to find a picture.

OK, let me dig a little deeper...I have a spool of RG6 cable and there are plenty of old cable outlets here, where I could feed that through existing holes and boxes. Is that feasible?

RG6 and RG59 is 75ohm cable, meant for CATV. RG8U and RG58 is 50ohm meant for radio transmissions. If you were to try to transmit using RG6/59 your SWR would be so out of whack that you could possibly destroy the radio.

This is the radio to wall jumper, it's sma to bnc.

I use rg6 quadshield for my hf feedline. Works great. But it's different at 7 mHz vs 144 mHz.

With 5 watts a good feedline will be important. Easy to find on Amazon.

If one of the HAMS here says that RG6QS will work for whatever you're trying to do, I happen to have some on a spool that I'm never going to use since I've already run it throughout the house.

Nice, now let's see what they say.

    ETA: My RG6 is QS.

Understandable. I might be able to make up an antenna this week and check it with the rg6 on the analyzer. I can tell how good or bad it might be. What would the length be.

Easiest is picking up pre made rg8 because you need the so239 chassis mount. Dx engineering has it all..
