What type of round is this?
An elderly friend of mine was cleaning out his safe and found these two 38 special rounds. He doesn't remember what they are.
Before I just try and shoot them I was curious if anyone knew what they are?
Here is link to pics.

Re: What type of round is this?
They look like wadcutters.
It's not really a good idea to shoot ammo of an unknown origin.

.38 Special wadcutter. Typically a mild target load. Personally, unless I knew if they were factory or if reloads the source and powder charge. Failing that I'd just pull the bullets, dump the powder and salvage the cases.

Re: What type of round is this?
As was said, shooting mystery ammo can be risky, especially stuff like 38 wadcutters that are often reloaded by whomever.
If you have a robust 357 revolver it would probably handle it well regardless of the mystery load, and I'm sure many guys here would be ok with it.
But personally I stay away from mystery ammo. How can you have any cookies if you don't drink your milk?

Re: What type of round is this?
Thanks everyone for your help.
I've never used such a round but recently bought my first revolver. I've had plenty of other guns just not a revolver. Some would say late to the game. 😁
I'll probably do what was said and just use the cases for reloading.
My friend has been shooting for a very long time but decided the other day it was time to clean his safe out a little bit. He is getting up there in age and just couldn't remember what they were.
Thanks again.

Do yourself a favor and load some wadcutters of your own. They're really sweet to shoot, recoil of a .22 and nice neat holes.

Re: What type of round is this?
I miss the older style wadcutters after shooting a bunch I would run six rounds of FMJ made cleaning the bore easier.

Re: What type of round is this?
The wadcutters are for target practice. They punch holes in paper like a , well, paper punch. No ragged edges.
Go sell crazy some where else, we're all stocked up here.
