Where to shoot this Summer?
As posted in the "Ranges" topic, the SGL 206 range is closed for Lead Remediation until 9/18/08. So where will every be shooting this Summer? From the Back Mountain, the nearest pistol range is at least an hour away.

Sucks doesn't it? Finding an area to shoot is not as easy as it used to be which is why the valley needs a good indoor range.

Re: Where to shoot this Summer?
Yes it does. Chris at Advanced Arms is planning one. I wish him luck. I toyed with the idea myself a couple of months ago, but it is just not my thing.
SGL 300 in Archbald is still open (Exit 4 off Route 6, about 20 minutes northwest of Scranton.) There is another SGL rifle range just over the border in Columbia County. Last time I was there it did not look in the best of shape.

SGL 300 is going to be closed for lead removal, I think the sign said August 6-12. And their are a few days for police qualifying and the PSP camp cadet.

Re: Where to shoot this Summer?
Anyone have any idea why the one at SGL91 is closed or when/if its going to reopen. On the PGC site it says "(TEMPORARILY CLOSED)", but if I'm not mistaken it has been for a year or 2.
When gas was cheaper I went to up SGL159. I was just driving to drive(remember that?)started in Pittston, went up rt502 and ended up there. If I remember correctly its like an hour and a half.

Re: Where to shoot this Summer?
Its supposed to open this fall. It's been closed for years. I can't wait for it to open as I live quite close to it. It would be nice if they add some kind of handgun range. SGL #91 was a 100yd rifle range with a backstop at 25yds for sighting in, although handgun shooters would frequently shoot there.
I had heard they were also supposed to open up the range down near Mountain Lake which would make a nice handgun range. Not sure if this will happen though.

Re: Where to shoot this Summer?
The range on Suscon Rd at the Bear Creek / Pittston Twp border used to be good too. Then they closed it a few years back, and it has been closed ever since. When the Game Comission was contacted about it, there response was " It needs too much work to be opened again." They said that a stary bullet might hit a home on Rt 502 or a passing vehicle on Suscon Rd. They did some work on it about 2 yrs before it closed, and they put up berms so that the roadway is protected.
Just another excuse by the PA Game Comission in my book. A bunch of crap.

Re: Where to shoot this Summer?
The range on Suscon Rd is due to be open this year. Its the closet range to me too. I haven't been up that way so I don't know what new improvements they are making.
I hope they change it from just a 100yd rifle range.
