Re: PSA: Please read if you own a Winchester Safe . . .
I know this is two years + after you posted this but thank god I ran across. I had exactly same issue and thanks to your post was able to resolve with your suggestions. Actually was able to get parts from MBA USA (probably not an option at the time) and a little cheaper for anyone else that may run into this issue. Thought I was looking at an expensive nightmare. Thank you.

Re: PSA: Please read if you own a Winchester Safe . . .
The solution (no matter how old the thread) is to not purchase a safe with an electronic keypad that does not have an override , such as a key.

Re: PSA: Please read if you own a Winchester Safe . . .
That sucks. Personally I would never have a safe which didn't have a key override (mine has one).....but obviously the electronic part shouldn't be malfunctioning like that. I wonder if the problem is the buttons or whatever input interface it has.....as if maybe the numbers being entered are either doubled on some entries or not actually registering at all in the little RAM chip which accepts the combination. Maybe pay attention to how each button feels and sounds as you enter the numbers?

I have a Cabelas Premium Signature safe, in actuality a Liberty Franklin Series, with an S&G e-lock. The lock has a 5 year 100% parts and labor guarantee. In case of my demise the combo is the 9s complement of a juxtaposed version of my old Navy enlisted serial number with one digit dropped. My wife is trying to remember it.

Timemaster...where shitty capacitors go to die. That, by the way, is what kills these things...caps in the keypad timing circuit and the memory module on the lock that strobes the keypad waiting for an input from the user.

All very valid points and good suggestions. The next one will either have key backup or dial. And will not try and save a penny. Probably will be soon as I need more room and it's hard to give up any as they are like part of the family

Re: PSA: Please read if you own a Winchester Safe . . .
I had a locksmith give me that advice about not doubling numbers in your combo years ago. We had a safe at my job that one of the numbers on the keypad stopped working. As you can guess it was the number that was used double in the combo. Makes sense that the button would wear out twice as quickly.
