Multi caliber supressor
So I may have finally convinced the wife that I need a suppressor. However she's not thrilled with the 200 tax stamp for each one, and frankly neither am I.
Therefore... Is there a suppressor that will work with 5.56, 22 and pistol calibers?
I saw the gemtech one, but wasn't sure if it was able to be disassembled for cleaning 22lr. I would like to eventually use it for a m&p pro 9mm, but if it was strictly a 223/22lr can that would work too as that would be what I would use it on 90% of the time.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Re: Multi caliber supressor
My recommendation is if you want a 22 can get a 22 can, same with the 5.56. Due to leading it's not a good idea to shoot 22 out of a 5.56 can.
I don't think there is a can that does it all so you may have to get a couple, which by the way is not a bad thing.

Take a look at the Liberty Mystic X. http://libertycans.net/mystic-x/
The mounts are different for rifle and handgun. Fixed vs tilting barrel.
Given that the base caliber is significantly larger than .22, leading shouldn't be an issue. And if you check out the difference in shooting smaller calibers through larger caliber cans, you'll see the performance drop is pretty minimal. I recall specs showing .45 cans suppressing 9mm with only about a 2-3dB difference compared to a 9mm can. I could live with that to save another $1k.

Griffin armament Optimus. If you want a multi caliber, one to do it all, silencer, that is hands down what you want. You can configure it to .17 Mach2, .17 HMR, .22 Hornet, .22 LR, .22 MAG, .22 WMR, .300 BLK, 5.45x39mm, 5.7x28 FN, 6.8mm, 9mm, 5.56mm (.223), 7.62mm (.30 Caliber - up to .300WM).

Another vote for the Optimus. Took delivery of mine a few weeks ago. I am impressed with the quality and versatility. Easy to dissemble and clean. It is kind of big for use as a rimfire suppressor. But it will work for you until you can get the coin together for a dedicated rimfire can.

Re: Multi caliber supressor
I'll look into that.
My biggest thing was if I'm spending 350 for a rimfire can and 650 for 223 can, why pay 400 to the gov when I can buy one for a grand that does it all. Butttt....we'll see, as I see myself using it mostly for fun with a 22LR. That griffin one does look nice though.

Re: Multi caliber supressor
I can tell you this... An actual .22 caliber silencer (say for your 5.56) is going to be quieter and smaller than an Optimus. The Optimus doesn't put up spectacular performance numbers, but it obviously shines in modularity. Most won't notice the difference, but just food for thought.

My Optimus is still in jail for about a month... I can't wait!
