Re: Gun Violence Tax passes Unanimously
tax dollars such as these will curb gun violence.. I can only take that as over the top sarcasm. If not, there is nothing wrong with curbing gun violence, but taxing legitimate firearm owners for the sake of criminals that in most cases obtain their firearms illegally, is not going to curb or reduce gun violence. If the taxes go high enough, it may stop people with limited resources from purchasing guns, and even that remains to be seen, but expectation of reducing violence over taxation is far fetched. I sincerely believe that whatever device or product that an out of control government wants to be gotten rid of will be either taxed, restricted, or legislated out of existence. I understand your frustration Jap, but try to keep a clear head on this issue.
How much taxation (money) on curbing crime is it going to take to teach people that unjustified shootings are wrong?

Re: Gun Violence Tax passes Unanimously
I prefer to reduce violence by putting the fear of quick violent painful death into the minds of human predators. They should have the expectation that they each time they treat someone like a "mark", to reduce them to a thing, that they take a chance of getting very bad hurt or very dead.
So to me money spent on anti-violence programs should be spent at the range and learning situational awareness. So that enough people are out there, like human land mines, waiting to go "boom" when a human predator steps to all of us. So that they make a business decision to find honest work, something that they should have been taught growing up.
The collectivistic non-sense of "community action" is a violent form of Kumbayah, consciousness raising and ultimately making people into passive things, into human livestock. We're people, not livestock, not children and the world ain't a Romper Room. We need the room to breathe, grow and contribute to the world around us. I'm a person, not a cog in Society's machine and not Mike Bloomberg's human livestock or one of his children.
I think I speak for most of the folks here. Ain't wrong to terrify human predators, it's a sacred duty in fact.

Re: Gun Violence Tax passes Unanimously
In some fantasy land that might happen. Unless the shop owner has 2,000 cans of food in his basement, wears a tin foil hat, stocks gas masks, and has his 5 year old kid on the lookout for Obama and Holder in the backyard, he'll be collecting the tax like he's supposed to or he'll be in jail.

Re: Gun Violence Tax passes Unanimously
From NY SAFE
Anti gun violence programs will partner with local law enforcement – police departments, sheriffs’ offices, district attorneys’ offices and probation departments – to provide additional resources that allow those agencies to better serve and protect their communities. Key to those efforts are a variety of programs designed to specifically target violent and gun crime in the state’s urban centers, many of which involve partnerships with community-based programs, ranging from Boys and Girls Clubs and YWCAs to hospitals and churches and other religious organizations.
Keeping children engaged in after school programs and showing them there are better alternatives than joining a gang and acting like a thug. Nothing but good can come from programs like this. I've been a part of them in Philadelphia for two decades and have seen firsthand the success of many of them.
Every government program that is funded by our tax dollars isn't some back door conspiracy that "they is comin to take yer gunz".......Why so much paranoia. This place wasn't like this a year or two ago, WTF.....

What is the city going to do about it? They will try to enforce an illegal tax and the shop owner takes the city court and proves to the court the law is illegal, the law is abolished and the city is made to pay all court costs. The tax payers pick up the costs and nothing but loss is incurred by the city. This is why they have preemption in the first place, to stop irresponsible unaccountable city councils from turning city into fiefdoms. This is why leftist should be barred from holding office.
Corruption is the default behavior of government officials. JPC

**cough-cough-bullshit-cough***
Anti gun violence programs partnering with local LE, etc.. ?
Read through that again and tell me what you see. But read between the lines. In short, it says..... The govt wants to use your hard earned tax dollars, to pay govt employees, to teach your children, how not to be assholes. The govt should have no part in raising your children. That's the job of the parents.
Wanna know what our "anti gun violence" program is here ? We'll throw ya a free gun lock if you need one. Teaching your kid right from wrong is on you, not the govt. The govt already intrudes too much into our daily lives.
This is just another case of taxing the working class to give the money to the poor folks. Throwing more of our tax dollars at the people who already live off our tax dollars and do noting to earn it. It's a perpetual cycle that will never be fixed, no matter how much of our money you throw at it. If the inner city yutes need an after school program to keep them off the streets, tell them to do their homework or go to church. Better yet, tell their parents.Last edited by jw34; August 14th, 2015 at 04:42 AM.
