new hunter...need some help
Hey guys, this is my first year hunting and I'm lost as to what is allowed. I'm primarily going to hunt deer and turkey but maybe some duck, grouse and pheasant. I recently got a Rem 700 in .243 as my deer gun and plan to grab a 12ga for turkey. I need some advise on what/where to start. I got my license but no doe tags cause they're scarce right now but what is the weight limit on buck? Is there a certain amount of points they have to have? How can I find out when the seasons start and end? Is there a limit on what I can take for deer and turkeys? Like I said I've never done this before and I would like to have some good info on what's legal in PA.
Thanks guys.

Re: new hunter...need some help
1) Did you take the mandatory PA hunter safety class? You can't buy a hunting license until you've taken care of that.
2) Once you've taken (and passed) the above class you can buy a hunting license. When you buy your license you get a summary digest with regulations, seasons and bag limits in it.
3) The hunting digest mentioned above can be found online, here- http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal...=968783&mode=2
4) See #1.

The digest can be tricky to read as there is a lot of information in it and much of it is area specific.
Figure out the area you plan to hunt (Wildlife Mgmt Unit, WMU) and go from there.

I have my hunting license, where can I pick up a paper copy of the digest? Where I bought my license they were out.

Re: new hunter...need some help
the digest usually comes with your license, but id say any place that sells licenses should have them

So it looks like for starting I'll be in 5C, where do I go for the doe tags?

5C is one of the really tricky areas. You're in Macungie and you said you have a rifle, that's fine. If you go south into Bucks or Montgomery, you cannot use your rifle there.
For some reason, the Lehigh County treasurer is not issuing doe tags this year, you'll have to go or mail to a different county for a doe tag.
Pay attention to the seasons (5C has some longer antlerless ones than the rest of the state). "Buck" season is 2 weeks everywhere.
The digest is online also, there is a link on the Game Commission website
