Ejector rod unscrewing on one of my Smith's
Hit the range real quick today to test fire a few rounds out of my new 25-2. When I brought it home to clean, I noticed the cylinder didn't seem to release as smoothly. Lo and behold the ejector rod was slightly loose and able to be turned with hand pressure. First time thing has happened to me after owning almost 10 revolvers. Should I just degrease, apply a dab of blue loc-tite, and hand tighten? Or is there anything else I need to do to prevent unscrewing?

clean it off and tighten it as tight as you can, by hand.

Re: Ejector rod unscrewing on one of my Smith's
Make sure when you tighten it, you do so with rounds/empty cases in at least two or three chambers. This way the round portion of the ejector star takes some/more of the torque, not the two tiny alignment pins in the cylinder.
I have applied just a small dab of clear nail polish on the first few threads on the star shaft, let dry, then tighten. Seems to help, but is not permanent.
Good luck!

Re: Ejector rod unscrewing on one of my Smith's
First off, nothing to worry about as this is common with S&W revolvers. Remove the bottom side plate screw, open the cylinder, and the entire assembly will pull out. Pad a vice, leather works fine, and secure the cylinder in the vice by the extractor rod, snug but not tight. Remember to put 6 empty cases on a moon clip into the cylinder. If not the tapered ends (new extractor) or alignment pins (old style) on the extractor will take all of the torque. Turn the cylinder by hand counter-clockwise until snug, left-hand threads. Put the cylinder-crane assembly back into the revolver, reinstall the screw and you are set. I hope this helps.

Re: Ejector rod unscrewing on one of my Smith's
Excellent advice! Used the leather padded vise trick w/ 6 empties, and now it feels just as tight as all of my other S&W's. Will see how it holds up at the range tmrw.
