Going on a cruise in Alaska; will be stripped of my rights
When my fiance and I decided to go to Alaska for our honeymoon, I was looking forward to be able to carry my firearm while I'm there. But then we decided to do a cruise with Celebrity Cruises, and this is what I found on the Celebrity Cruise website:
What not to pack:
• Firearms & Ammunition, including realistic replicas.
• *Sharp Objects, including knives and scissors.
• Illegal Drugs & Substances
• Candles & Incense
• Coffee Makers, Clothes Irons, & Hot Plates
• Baseball Bats, Hockey Sticks, Cricket Bats, Bows & Arrows
• Skateboards & Surfboards
• Martial Arts Gear
• Self-Defense Gear, including handcuffs, pepper spray, night sticks.
• Flammable Liquids and Explosives, including lighter fluid and fireworks.
• HAM Radios
• Dangerous Chemicals, including bleach and paint.
• **Alcoholic Beverages
So what do I do? Cancel the cruise, loose my $500.00 deposit and upset my fiance? No, I'm gonna suck it up and count on situational awareness, planning ahead, and some creative thinking to be safe. Just about anything can be used as a weapon, and an ounce of prevention usually saves more lives than a hundred bullets.
As much as I hate to support a company with a no-weapons policy, this is my first cruise, and will most likely be my last (not really into spending money on vacations). I haven't checked the weapons policy of other cruise companies, but I'm willing to bet they are all similar. This is a once in a lifetime trip and I'll probably regret it if I pass this up just to spite a multi-million dollar company. I'm sure I'll be flamed for it (just like I was flamed for not boycotting the airlines) but it's okay, I got my flame suit on.Last edited by bac0nfat; February 21st, 2011 at 05:39 PM.

Try finding a cruise line that allows carrying of weapons of any sort..

Before you get too involved in blaming the cruise line, I wonder how much of this has to do with maritime laws?
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Did you really think you would be able to bring a gun on a cruise ship?

You aren't really being stripped of your rights, you are volunteering to do so by paying for the cruise and staying aboard private property.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

No, I never said that. When we decided on Alaska, it wasn't necessarily going to be a cruise. Once we decided to do a cruise, I figured there was no way I'd be able to have a gun. So it did not surprise me to see that on the website. I was surprised that it specifically mentioned "self-defense gear" and pepper spray. I usually carry pepper spray when I can't have my gun.
