Default Hoppe's No. 9 air freshener???

I got this letter from a friend who is a personal friend of the author.
    I thought it was funny.

    From Shipmate Dusty Rhodes

Those of you who have used WWII/Korea era bore cleaning solvent know just how horrible it smells. When I was a puppy I shot a lot of corrosive primer ammo through my old .303 British Enfield and as great as it was at sanitizing the bore I gagged at the smell. Then one day when I was a little flush with dough I picked up a bottle of Hoppe's No.9 powder solvent and never looked back. In the family for the last 40 years was my standing joke of a get rich scheme to convince Avon and Hoppe's to merge on an after shave that has the scent of Hoppe's No.9. My reasoning was that NO woman could resist a man that smelled like a clean rifle bore. Low and behold, page 28 of the Nov American Rifleman has a small article stating that Hoppe's is now marketing an air freshener that has the scent of good old No.9. While I was close I can claim no real cigar, but I will accept your applause and admiration later!!

That's just nasty! You could probably make your own, but who in their right mind would do that?

LOL, I like how it smells. I honestly think it's a bit of a "comfort smell" for me, kind of like pumpkin pie, mom's cooking, etc. Just too many times of dad and I going to shoot together, clean firearms together, etc. I love it. I will say that nobody has ever said I was in my right mind though, lol.

It reminds me of Grandpa cleaning his guns! His old gun cabinet used to smell that way from his father using it on the guns, and now I own that cabinet and the smell hasn't left it. That's four generations of No 9!

I get what you're saying, but doesn't it give you a headache? Or is that just me?

If I sat over it and huffed it, it dang sure would. I usually clean guns in a pretty big room that has some ventilation. So it doesn't make my head hurt usually, but sometimes it does. Sometimes I've noticed by the end of a cleaning session it'll be coming on a little bit. Most of the time it doesn't phase me though.

Its funny as hubby and I were talking about the smell of Hoppes #9 while cleaning some guns recently. I have somehow grown accustomed to it and ....actually have in some very unbelieveable way, grown to like it. ? what? haha Yeah. I think it is because it is a smell accustomed with enjoyable times for us.
    Re air freshener - "not".

I've been telling George from Weapon Shield to make WS air fresheners for over a year now! Looks like Hoppes beat us to it!

At least now I don't have to give my car seats a little dab of it.
I'm so fast, I can bump fire a bolt action.
