Giants despair race
Does anyone know when the Giants despair race is this year?
Here is a link for those who don't know about this race.

Re: Giants despair race
The race is this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. Wanted to go this year as I haven't been to the race in forever, but doesn't look like I'll make it.
When we were kids my friends and I used to be all over that hill watching the race. If your old enough to remember the two big white tanks before the Devil's Elbow, we used to climb up there and watch the race.

Re: Giants despair race
It's this weekend! I live 20 seconds from the Giant. Going to miss it because I'm working a smallbore match this weekend. It's the oldest hillclimb in the country and a great event for free!

It's this weekend. Incidentally, it is also a pretty good bicycle ride.

Re: Giants despair race
Believe it or not......maaany moons ago I used to ride my mountain bike up that hil. Ok, truth be told I cold only get to the Devil's Elbow, then I had to walk/push my bike through the Elbow.
Once I got above the Elbow, I would be able to ride my bike just passed the "S" turn, then had to walk my bike up that last stretch of hill. Once over the top I would ride down to the railroad bed and follow the trail down to the Tubs. Then finish by following the trail at the bottom along I-81 and end up coming out by the park at the top of Willow Street.
If someone can make it all the way up.....they are one bad mamma-jamma!

Re: Giants despair race
I just bought my adult daughter a mountain bike for her birthday. 24 gears, adjustable shocks. With a bike like that you could make it up Giants Despair. When I was a kid if you had a 3 speed you were king of the Roost, at least, until the gears slipped. Somewhere along the way i bought myself a 10 speed of which I used maybe, at most, 4. Don't know what I'd do with 24.

Re: Giants despair race
I used to race bikes in the late 70's/early 80's,until I got that freakin' Giardiasis from the local water supply..Any of you guys from the Valley that remember that crap,I was the first person they diagnosed with it,I was case#1..I got sick right in the middle of a race,I was passing Lake Ariel, threw my guts up,barely made it back to Pittston..Oh yeah,it was a 100 mile race.I've been up the Giant a dozen times on a bike,[Peugeot PX10]and a few strapped into my Porsche 914 I raced in the 80's..
