Default Carring conceled off your person...

Does anyone carry a gun in a briefcase/purse regularly? I'm just looking for thoughts on this style of concealed carry. I occasionally carry my CCW in a soft sided briefcase that I always have with me. At work I might have the gun in my desk drawer or in the bag 3 feet behind me. (Other times I have it in my shoulder holster on my person.) Just wondering if anyone else ever does this and/or why not.

My wife was at work the other day, her purse was in the backroom. Someone snuck in and stole her cash and credit cards. Thank god she didnt have her gun in there! I like to have my gun on me, I dont want to arm a criminal. But if you have a SECURE place to put it that may be another issue.

Best reason not to do it right there....I remember some kind of discussion a while back on this subject....

That, and forgetting it...IE forgetting the briefcase somewhere.....

I never leave the bag out of my site, but I tend to agree so far...It can leave you open to disaster! It's just so convenient to carry that way...but I certainly don't want to make a habit out of doing it. I can easily carry a 1911 or a Raging Bull...no worries about printing or anything.

MommaC and I were in Wal-Mart this past Friday. She's following me with a shopping cart full of stuff and I'm walking in front of her with a list, tossing stuff in and checking it off as we go. I needed something from my purse and that's when it hit me, just where exactly is my purse? Thankfully, it was in the cart, just covered up with stuff. After MommaC uncovered it and passed it to me, I said, "And that's the reason why I don't carry my gun in my purse!"

When camping or hiking with my son I sometimes carry the G26 in a Fanny Pack, which I wear over my neck and one shoulder, toward the front of the body. This small pack will also contain a extra magazine, lighter, multi-tool and small pocket knife. The Fanny Pack never leaves the body when packing.

I never carry off person. Your gun is out of your control if it is not on you.

How convenient is it to draw from a soft sided brief case? I think you give up too much for the sake of convenience. Keep it on your body.
