Default Anyway around having both aprties present for pistol transfer????

My wife's grandparents are going to be in town this weekend and I may be recieving a pistiol from her grandmother. Now shes not in the best health, and is pretty developed in years, so to save her some trouble can I just take the pistol to an FFL myself without her, or she should she just have it shipped? I just remembered she could ship it as I'm typing so I may have just answered my own question.

P.S. They are visiting from Md.

I think she can ship it to an FFL, whereupon they can transfer it to you.

There is no requirement for both parties to be at the FFL simultaneously.

I know of no law that would prohibit you from delivering the firearm to the FFL.

Individual FFL's may have more stringent requirements than state and fed law.

Have the grandparents give it to their granddaughter. No FFL needed.

Now, if their granddaughter is your wife, she can give it to you. Again, no FFL needed.

If that's a loophole, then take advantage of it. Sure saves time, money, and aggravation.

Have the grandparent bring the pistol during the visit. Once in Pennsylvania she can then give it to your wife as a gift without the need for a FFL. Since you have a LTCF you can borrow the pistol or your wife can give it to you.

I don't see how a FFL needs to be involved in this.

    (c) Duty of other persons.-Any person who is not a licensed importer, manufacturer or dealer and who desires to sell or transfer a firearm to another unlicensed person shall do so only upon the place of business of a licensed importer, manufacturer, dealer or county sher*iff's office, the latter of whom shall follow the procedure set forth in this section as if he were the seller of the firearm. The provisions of this section shall not apply to transfers between spouses or to transfers between a parent and child or to transfers between grandparent and grandchild.

Ok... so because it's coming in from out of state it has to go through a FFL. If all parties were in state it wouldn't be an issue.

    Thanks for the info.
