Surefire Sonic Defenders® - Anyone use them?
I have seen a few people using these. They seem like a better idea than foam earplugs and not as expensive as custom made earplugs. I shoot a fair amount and go through foam earplugs quit quickly. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

If you shoot a lot, I would highly recommend going to an audiologist and getting custom molded earplugs. They cost about a hundred bucks, but it is worth it. They are so comfortable that you can't even feel them. You don't have to worry about them falling out, and they block sound better than any other earplug. They are also easier and faster to put in than foam earplugs. Considering most people can easily go through a hundred bucks worth of ammo in a single range trip, the cost of custom earplugs is a drop in the bucket.

+1
They are the most comfortable pair of plugs I've been able to find. I can wear them all afternoon and they don't make your ears hurt at all.
I typically wear them under a set of electronic muffs to provide a bit of extra protection when shooting my ar that has a brake.Machinist for hire - Get a hold of me if you need something made

NRR of 16db (Surefire Sonic Defenders®) is not enough protection for shooting sports. I'd recommend at least 25-30db. Research hearing protection before you buy something thats not going to protect you from "any" hearing loss. Start by searching this forum for previous threads on the subject (try searching the term "hearing protection").

What I use:
These just push in, no fooling around compressing first (like foam plugs). and they are reusable (just wash them in mild soap/water after use)

That's downright pathetic. I'll pass. I'm happy using standard, cheap earplugs that have a NRR of 25-30 depending on the ones I use that day, in addition to electronic ear muffs. I think "doubling up" is well worth it for the added protection and safety of being able to hear what is going on around you.
You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.
