Utah vs. Florida non-resident permit
Hello all,
I have noticed a number of facilities offering classes for Florida and Utah permits. I have my PA permit, but a Utah or Fla. non-resident would give me many states including Delaware, my main concern. Unless I am not seeing things correctly, the only difference besides cost of the actual permit, is that Fla will give me Kansas. Utah is cheaper to get and the renew is only ten dollars. Am I missing something?
Sorry, meant to put this in the Q & A sectionLast edited by rady8um; February 16th, 2007 at 11:39 PM. Reason: wrong area

I'm certified to teach the Utah CCW and you've got it right, FL gives you one or two more states that UT doesn't but UT is about $55 to $60 cheaper.

Re: Utah vs. Florida non-resident permit
Thanks, your website is what got me thinking about a UT non-res. The link you have to show the number of states you would be legal in was good too. The problem is, I'm on the other end of the PA. Anybody have any preference for a facility that teaches the Utah CCW class around Montco?

Steve Silverman. www.f-r-i.com
Or check the Utah website. They have a listing of instructors.

One thing too for FL, they accept your Hunter Safety Course certificate/card for the training requirement. Which may offset the cost difference between Utah and Florida. But taking a course, or refresher course, is alway a good idea.

Re: Utah vs. Florida non-resident permit
One of the big attractions for the FL CCW (at least a couple of years ago) is that FL would accept just about any form showing any kind of training with handguns. This includes DD214, NRA marksmanship classification card, hunter safety or NRA safety class, etc.
I got my FL ccw so that I can carry in DE but when the Virginia reciprocity situation occurred I went ahead and got my UT and AZ permits. I will probably let my FL ccw expire, but will keep as many as I can if the political winds change again. I go to VA pretty often and got into a mild panic when they pulled their reciprocity - I don't want to be in that situation again.

Re: Utah vs. Florida non-resident permit
I'm one of those who tends to collect permits like baseball cards. I don't necessarily need overlapping coverage, although it can come in handy if reciprocity agreements get modified. But, I look at it this way. The more permits a particular state issues, the more revenue it generates for that state. The more revenue they get, the more they tend to rely on it, and therefore the more they tend to support issuing more of these permits. And so, ultimately, that means more law abiding citizens carry firearms in that particular state and in other states as well, as non-residents.
The more people that get used to having a firearm around when they are out and about, the more they want to make sure they can continue to do so, and the more reluctant they are to vote for an anti-gun politician.
It's sort of an unintended consequence of me exercising my right. That's not a bad thing, is it?
