Default How do I get back seized guns?

I had some guns seized by the PPD over 10 years ago. Any ideas on if and how I could get them back? Some people tell me they are destroyed and other people tell me that Philly keeps them stored indefinitely in some huge room at City Hall. If you need more details, I'd be happy to share.

I'm trying to find out the case number but no luck yet.

    Especially not in Philly.

Can you tell us why the guns were seized and did they give you receipts?

    Sure thing.

I don't remember exactly what year it was but i think 2000. My folks and I ran a corner store at 11th and Green Sts. We had trouble with some drug dealers in our neighboorhood and I testified in a trial against one (I was attending Temple U. at the time and commuting from home)

2 Months after the trial where I testified vs. one of the drug dealers, I was arrested in my house for attempted murder. Hello Philly SWAT!! The police had a search warrant for my house and business. (I lived above my corner store) The took a few items of interest to them and 2 guns, a Sig P229 and a Taurus .38 snubbie.
After my case was dismissed (turns out the other drug dealers paid a crack head to say I shot at him )I never got my property back. My dad had a lawyer expunge my record so now I can't seem to find out my case number or anything.

    Ideas? Thoughts?

In some parts of the state it could be a DIY job, but considering Philly is involved - anything dealing with the police or other legal matters will end up needing an attorney.

After 10 years, I'd find it very likely those guns may no longer be in police custody. And very likely they were sold, destroyed, or lost by them. If so, and they weren't part of some crime or part of a conviction, you'd probably need to sue for compensation - which, an attorney would be best to handle.

Oh, I'd be willing to bet they are indeed in police custody, just not officially.
I had a gun seized after a hit and run accident turned ugly and I got it back after 15 years. However, they kept my Bianchi shoulder holster. It had my name and rank and an Air Force Security Police logo engraved/burned in it. It was a work of art. It has been spotted since then being worn by a cop who got shot over in Castle Shannon, Pa. I'm not saying he deserved to be shot, but Karma is a stone cold bitch!
Like I said, I'd bet money that somebody with a badge also has some 'used to be yours' type guns in their collection. I hope you have good luck getting them back, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I only got mine back because of one very honest, very devout Christian, who also had a badge.

Why would you wait over 10 years?
