MontCo...Must show cause??
Taking my wife to get her ltcf in a week or two and noticed some changes to the sherrifs page. Am I missing something or is Sherrif Behr of Montgomery Co confused?
Gun Permits
Pennsylvania License to Carry a Concealed Firearm
This section issues a "license to carry firearm" to those residents of Montgomery County who are 21 years of age or older and show cause to carry a firearm concealed on or about one's person or in a vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Re: MontCo...Must show cause??
Check the Self Defense box and not any of the other reasons. Some say that your permit can be denied because you don't absolutely need a LTCF for any of the other reasons listed.

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Make sure that your wife gets there as soon as they open and that she sets aside at least 1.5 hours to wait for it. I went past there today and it was 14 people deep at 10 AM.

Re: MontCo...Must show cause??
Nothing to worry about.
It is the current form.
Used statewide, every county.
Show cause = Check one box.
I chose self defense as my reason. It does not matter in PA, but some have speculated that it might be problematic if you are using it in a reciprocity state and it says "target shooting".
"Employment" is not a good one to check off. Then I think you need documentation from your employer.

Re: MontCo...Must show cause??
I filled my application at the counter, I asked if I should check multiple reasons they said they only one and only Self Defense.
Works for me.

Re: MontCo...Must show cause??
So nice of them to advise you of the information that you received. Some sheriff depatments will say nothing, and watch you check the wrong box by your choice. When your application is reviewed weeks later, it will be denied. I had hunter friends that checked the hunting box. They were denied the carry permit and advised to apply for a provisional permit.
I waste no time telling first time applicants to check self defense and certainly not the "for hunting" choice.

Re: MontCo...Must show cause??
I have heard of people checking more than one, i.e. Self Defense and Target Shooting. The LTCF said Self Defense.

Re: MontCo...Must show cause??
When I submitted my app I had every single box checked, partly because I wanted to carry for every single reason I could think of. Deputy Dawg at the counter must have liked my reasoning, he just shrugged and took it. When I got the license 10 minutes later it said PROTECTION. There is only room on the license for one reason.
I also left all the employment/employer section blank. Yes, I'm typing this now from federal-I-filled-out-the-form-wrong prison.
It helps to read and know the statutes. Otherwise you're likely to believe anything 'they' tell you. While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.
