    Default Interstate Shipping Question

I'm 90% sure I know the answer to this but I want confirmation.

My buddy Dave used to live in TX. When he moved here he left some of his rifles there with his father expecting to go back and get them once he was settled in here. He's never had the opportunity and with his fathers health being poor he wants to get those rifles here so he doesn't have to deal with any headaches/problems later should his father die.

The question is, can his father ship the rifles to him since they're his? I'm pretty sure even though its simply a case of his rifles being shipped to him he still needs to have them shipped to an FFL but I want confirmation before I tell him that.

Interstate transfers require an FFL in the receiving state.
If he is the owner there is no transfer.

Also, per fed law, you can not ship firearms to a non-licensee unless:
    1) shipment is intra-state
    2) you are shipping firearm to yourself.

Well it sort of helps. Being they're his rifles there's no transfer so that answers one question, but being as he's not there to ship them to himself here it still leaves the question of does he need to use an FFL to get them, or can he send his father a prepaid shipping label (and any necessary paperwork) so his father can just drop them at the shippers office to send them to himself?

Yes i'm slightly dense right now, I haven't had enough coffee yet today.
