Re: philly museum of art
Was there a couple of weeks ago. No searches / patdowns / magnamometers.
Didn't see any signs prohibiting carry. I was strapped, of course.FOAC Volunteer. NREMT-P. NRA Pistol/Rifle/Shotgun Instructor & RSO. BSA Rangemaster. Act 235.

I'm fairly sure all the museums are cool with carrying.

Re: philly museum of art
I've been to philadelphia museum of arts several times. I don't recall even seeing security near any entrances. Sure, their around, but I haven't seen any big policies posted on the entrances. Might they have a policy that I am not aware of? Yes. Fortunately, being ignorant to an unposted policy does not make carrying in a museum illegal.

Good news! Just found there policy on GOOGLE.

Says nothing about firearms. It does say that all large bags must be "checked". So either they are worried about bombs, or people walking out with a Maltese. In any case, I'd think it's best to carry concealed.Iconoclastic Individual Specimen

Re: philly museum of art
Howdy,
Backpacks and other large bags will be checked and asked not to be worn on your back. For the searches, you could have a bomb, spray paint, a fake piece of artwork, or trying to take things.
They however do not do pat downs, or metal detector sweeps. Please note, the some of the guards are retired police officers (mostly from philly), so they might get a little tense if they get wind of someone actively carrying.
Which buildings will you be visiting? Planning on sticking to the Main Building, or visiting the Perelman Building as well? (Main has more of the classic pieces, whereas the Perelman Building has more of the modern art.)

Re: philly museum of art
Fear that you will hit something/someone with it. Some of the walkways get pretty close to the artwork, and cramped.
Say you have a decent sized backpack, it's sticking 6 to 12 inches, or more, out from your back. You turn suddenly, and you could catch someone or hit some artwork. There are not that many barriers between you and the artwork. In some sections there are ropes or glass blocking access to the artwork, but it's not common.
