    Default Kel-Tec 9mm Carbine

I'm fairly certain that once I get hired at a new(and better!) job that I will purchase myself one of many, many gifts.

I'm thinking a Kel-Tec 9mm Carbine would be nice. If anyone has one, I'm interested in if it is sturdy. Can it take an extended hiking/camping trip? Can it handle living in the woods for years with good care but no spare parts(SHTF ya know?)

Now I'm thinking of getting the Glock version or Beretta version. I'm leaning towards Glock because of 33 round magazines. Either way, I'll be buying a Glock 17 or Beretta 92 to go along with it. Either way, I'm set on 9mm and heavily leaning towards the Glock(if I like the trigger).

This basically comes down to the banning of semi-autos and I would really like to procure one, but I want a good one and I'm still not 100% the Kel-Tec is going to be robust, dependable, and reliable.

Of course, I do have a WASR or Yugo AK on my list as well.

It may come down to whatever I see first, anyone know any dealers in NE PA where I can buy a WASR or Yugo AK as well as the Kel-Tec?

All of these firearms(pistol, carbine, AK) will be used for the same purpose of plinking, simple target shooting, home defense, camp defense.

One last thing, I'm fine with the 9mm for all those applications.

I had my first encounter with an old kel tec rifle the other week. Didn't get to shoot it. It wasn't for me.

    SHTF = AK.

Go for it. You'll love it.

Not sure if I'd want to live in the woods with it for years upon years though.

I had a Keltec Sub 2000, and loved it, but sold it, as it was so reliable it was boring.

I regretted selling it so much, i traded for another one.

the first one saw several thousand ridiculously accurate rounds with only one malfunction:

the original plastic mag catch broke as the gun used metal SW 5906 mags.
This also happens to GLOCKs when aftermarket metal mags are used, so its not a "keltec" thing...its a sharp metal on plastic wear thing

they fixed it for free, and upgraded to the new style mag catch which had no issues for several thousand other rounds.

the new style mag catch is quickly replaceable if it breaks, which is apparently uncommon on the upgraded models.

my new one uses glock mags, but also has the upgraded catch, and I have had no issues.

the keltec 9mm carbines are small, which may be uncomfortable for a large framed person, but still, its sturdy, accurate, dependable, and fun to shoot...its also perfect if you buy a model that shares mags with a sidearm you own.

as a further note, its an emminently "packable" gun, its light, fairly sturdy, the folding setup reduces carrying size, and the folded weapon can be carried with a loaded mag (not in a car!), and deployed and charged in under a second with practice.

to my eyes, the only thing that I *don't* like about it is its difficult to get any optic on it.
however, the installation of a barel mount laser is simple, if you like that stuff.

as a note, mine stays strapped to my bugout bag if i'm not currently using it.

Thanks guys, it sounds like a good buy. I'm leaning towards one for Glock mags, I just hope I can find one around here that isn't overpriced.

WHere are you in Schuylkill? (Oh, minersville, duh... thats not too far from me. Do you know of any place near Frackville we can meet?)
I have one, live in Northumberland County... you are welcome to contact me to shoot it if you are interested.

    I love mine.
I too, bought a G17 to go along with it.

I have my rifle. Do you?

Hey I appreciate that, and may have to take you up on that! I never shot a Glock and wanted to see how I liked the trigger. There used to be a smallish "range" outside of Lavelle south of Mount Carmel, it probably is still useable.
