M1 Garand Springfield arms vs HRA

I want to order a service grade M1 garand from CMP and want to know what everyone thinks. Which one would you pick? The Springfield arms or HRA model and why?

i had the same problem which one and why. posted the same question to. didnt get many replies. as far as i can tell there are less hra so thats why they are a little more money. i just ordered a correct grade sa my paper work arrived yesterday so the wait begins. i guess i picked the sa over the hra because because the rifle started with sa.

personal preference is what it boiles down to.
i wanted something that might have seen action...and i like the springfield name, so all three of mine are springfields with ww2 dates.

The HRAs are much nicer because they were produced after the war and didn't really see action. I just picked up a really nice HRA.

That being said, I have an order in for an SA

Why not have one of each???

As the old saying goes six one way, a half a dozen the other way. On the rarity scale the HRA's are a lot more uncommon than the Springfields. The first M1 I bought was an HRA from the north store last year during the national matches. I later placed an order for a correct grade SA. I would lean towards an HRA first due to the smaller numbers and then work on finding a nice SA to complement the collection. Just my two cents. Keep in mind that there is a huge backlog for mail orders right now due to the release of Winchester garands & Carbines and the annointing of our new glorious leader Obama. Expect a 3-4 month wait for your order to be processed. I placed an order around thankgiving and if finally got filled today.

Wrong.

You need to buy 4; an SA, Winnie, HRA and IHC.

The HRA and IHC guns are pure post-war, so were not built in the haste that the Wins and WW2 SA's were. (Not that we equate haste to something shoddy like a STEN here, just not as fine if you will as the post-war SAs, HRAs, IHCs.)
But OTOH; unlike the early SAs or Wins - ya can't rightly ponder over whether or not they made it to the PTO or ETO.

I was not aware that HRA Garands did not see any action. How about during the Korean Coflict?

Not a 100% sure on the IHC's - as they had a fair amount of production issues and SA had to step in and provide a ton of assistance (including parts to assemble guns with) - but I would think all 4 "brands" of Garands seen combat, but only the Wins and the wartime SAs seen WW2.

As far as needing $3K to get one of each Garand - naw, they're out there for less if you want a shooter vs. a queen.

Walk any gunshow and keep your eyes peeled; the easy availability of CMP guns have kept M1 prices stupid-low.

Try being into G41s or FN49s by comparison, heck, a nice Hakim goes for as much or more than a shooter Garand.
