Default Why are Mossberg barrels so expensive all of a sudden?

I called them like two months ago and I remember the giving me a price of like $120 for an all purpose 26" 20 Ga barrel. Over the holidays they had 22" camo barrels on sale for $100. Now they want $180 for the 26" and 22" barrels. FML I can by and brand new Maverick 88 for what I'd pay for a new barrel. What gives? Mavericks and Moss 500 use the same barrels.

True. In an email notification from Greg Cote LLC prior to Christmas he noted that Mec Gar would have new pricing beginning Jan 1, 2017. (his purchase price increasing)
It wasn't like some Chicken Little "OMG BUY THEM WHILE YOU CAN" message - just a reminder that if you've been putting off buying, the prices would be increasing soon as a result of the upcoming new pricing structure.

I think I need to send a nasty email to Mossberg. A new Maverick 88 can be had for right around $200 and even a little less. The barrels on them are the same as the Moss 500s. Basically I could just an entire new gun for the price of an individual barrel. That's just a bunch of horse crap.

Yeah, maybe try not buying directly from a manufacturer.

Nobody, but nobody will be priced higher most times.

Lower your expectations to zero and you'll never be disappointed.

Yep. Manufacturers sell at MSRP. Retailers sell at their purchase price + profit, which is often MUCH less than MSRP.

OP needs a barrel for a 20 gauge. Seems those are a bit harder to come by and pricey.
