    Default Can you identify

Pick this up because of the date code and packaging. Is this K98 ammo?.Only details I have are on the package, cartridge marked the same. Believe its 8x56r but not certain.

    I think it's 8X57.

I'm not a big time milsurp guy but yes, I believe most if not all K98's are chambered in 8mm

That is not 8x57. It is 8x56. That can be used in Steyr M95. Not for 8mm Mausers like K98 or Yugo M48.Here is Yugo surplus 8x57 notice difference in the neck.

    nijwnfi,

thanks for the clarification. I was not aware of the 8X56 round.

Was the round designed for a specific weapon?

I'm sure there are more, all I could find is Steyr M95 and M35 use 8x56r. I do like the clips that come with this ammo. The nazi marked stuff seems to be easiest to find. I wouldn't mind getting one of those m95 carbines myself. Saw a nice one at Cabelas for $175, you can order them cheaper, but this one looked nice.

I bought some of that ammo from Dunham's because it has the swastika stamped on the clip. Pretty neat, plus if you are a collector it's probably the cheapest item you can buy with a swastika.
