A 9/11 story......

One of my students brought in an excuse that he was absent on 9/11/09 because he attended a 9/11 memorial service at the local VFW. I thought that was a "little" lame as we did have a remembrance at our school. I figured he just wanted a day off. I said NOTHING to the student but showed the note to the Principal.

She said, "Oh yeah, I just found out too.... His father was fire fighter who died in Tower Two on 9/11"

I stood there silently for a minute. (happy that I kept my big mouth shut and angry at myself). It reminded me that families still suffer, and we must always remember their sacrifices and be appreciative.

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself as this we would be the majority of what most people would think although IF you would have spoken your mind you would have a hell of a lot of soul searching to do! I'm glad for you it didn't go that route.

Wow... your post caught me off gaurd. Very sad. I can see how you would be angry at yourself, but you didn't know. Don't let it haunt you.
