    Default Storing a gun

I just bought a new .357 revolver and am not sure what the best way to store it is. Can you store you gun in a carrying case? I am debating between a simple carrying case and a small safe. Security of the weapon isnt really an issue, its more about the best way to take care of the gun.

    Thanks, rspowers

I guess a definitive answer to your question depends on how long you want to store it. If I know I'm going to leave a gun in a case for any length of time, (overnight or longer), I put a good size piece of VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) paper in with it. I also keep VCI paper in my gun safe. I'm not saying it's an ideal solution and it certainly doesn't replace cleaning and applying a coat of oil, but it certainly is used a lot in industrial shipping and storage applications with apparently good results. I figure it can't hurt anything while storing a gun. As a matter of fact, some gun manufacturers put it in the boxes with new guns.

Picked this up at walmart for $20. Its seems good for now. I really just wanted a more secure place, then say my dresser. Its not bomb proof or burglar proof, more like a filing cabinet but will be perfect for me. When I have kids, I will get a much much better one.

If what you got is like the picture in the link, store your gun the same way. Just clean it, wipe it down with an oily rag (or buy a silicon cloth from the Wal-Mart gun section) and lay it in there. You don't have to keep it in anything else.
