House Democrats don't want Gore humiliated'
Climate Depot Exclusive - Updated
Washington, DC -- UK's Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, claimed House Democrats have refused to allow him to appear alongside former Vice President Al Gore at a high profile global warming hearing on Friday April 24, 2009 at 10am in Washington. Monckton told Climate Depot that the Democrats rescinded his scheduled joint appearance at the House Energy and Commerce hearing on Friday. Monckton said he was informed that he would not be allowed to testify alongside Gore when his plane landed from England Thursday afternoon.
“The House Democrats don't want Gore humiliated, so they slammed the door of the Capitol in my face,” Monckton told Climate Depot in an exclusive interview. “They are cowards.”
According to Monckton, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), Ranking Member on the Energy & Commerce Committee, had invited him to go head to head with Gore and testify at the hearing on Capitol Hill Friday. But Monckton now says that when his airplane from London landed in the U.S. on Thursday, he was informed that the former Vice-President had “chickened out” and there would be no joint appearance. Gore is scheduled to testify on Friday to the Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment's fourth day of hearings on the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. The hearing will be held in 2123 Rayburn House Office Building.
According to Monckton, House Democrats told the Republican committee staff earlier this week that they would be putting forward an unnamed 'celebrity' as their star witness Friday at a multi-panel climate hearing examining the House global warming bill. The "celebrity" witness turned out to be Gore. Monckton said the GOP replied they would respond to the Democrats' "celebrity" with an unnamed "celebrity" of their own. But Monckton claims that when the Democrats were told who the GOP witness would be, they refused to allow him to testify alongside Gore.
[ Update: 1:55 PM EST: A GOP House source told Climate Depot that the Democrats on the Committee said “absolutely not” to allowing Monckton to appear during today's Gore hearing. The GOP committee “pushed at multiple levels” to bring Monckton in to testify but the Democrats “refused,” according to the GOP source. Former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich was called in to testify after Monckton was rejected by the committee Democrats, according to the Congressional source.]
“The Democrats have a lot to learn about the right of free speech under the US Constitution. Congress Henry Waxman's (D-CA) refusal to expose Al Gore's sci-fi comedy-horror testimony to proper, independent scrutiny by the House minority reeks of naked fear,” Monckton said from the airport Thursday evening.
“Waxman knows there has been no 'global warming' for at least a decade. Waxman knows there has been seven and a half years' global cooling. Waxman knows that, in the words of the UK High Court judge who condemned Gore's mawkish movie as materially, seriously, serially inaccurate, 'the Armageddon scenario that he depicts is not based on any scientific view,'” Monckton explained. Monckton has previously testified before the House Committee in March. (See: Monckton: Have the courage to do nothing...US Congress told climate change is not real ) Monckton has also publicly challenged Gore to a debate. (See: Al Gore Challenged to International TV Debate on Global Warming By Lord Monckton - March 19, 2007 )
A call to the Democratic office of the House Energy and Commerce Committee seeking comment was not immediately returned Thursday night.

I have a stupid simple question. Why the hell is Gore testifying before this committee? What are his credentials? That he made a movie that would make a spotted owl dive head first into the path of a tractor trailer? That he got a bogus Nobel prize? That he is a former VP? I know let's have Cheney testify before a committee for health care.

He carries the water for one of the left's Holy Grails, plus they probably all have stock options in his carbon offset company.

Gore doesn't need any help making a fool of himself. Every time he open his mouth, he proves it.
A Republic, if you can keep it.

He may not have invented the internet, but he did fabricate global warming.

I read up on Christopher Walk... er.. Monckton (though I'd pay a TON of money to watch Walken testify before congress.. For anything.. CSPAN would have record shattering ratings)
Anyways..
Intersting read.. After you get past the incredibly silly title. The 3rd Viscount Monckton of Brenchley? Ok Brits.. You're just making that shit up now aren't you?
He has some points I agree with, and some points I don't. He fought against having the UK school system show the Inconvenent Truth which was good and true, but he is now trying to get his own movie "The Great Global Warming Swindle" Which is just a different side of the same coin. Their propaganda is bad, ours is good! Just doesn't sound right..
Also, he refers to a Chinese naval squadron that sailed right round the Arctic in 1421 and "found very little ice". Not sure how dependable such an account is due to the accuracy of Maps during that time.. And Core Samples from the Arctic are dated for over a thousand years.
Though he does admit that we have an enviromental problem that needs to be addressed regardless if Global Warming is true or false. Which pretty much sums up my own viewpoint. Reverse de-forestation, and build nuclear plants that are build like fortresses with every safety mechanism we can dream of. The US has 100 different designs that cost more, while other countries use 1 design and just copy it 100 times (alot cheaper )
Unless he's got a personality like Bill-O-Riley, there is no reason he shouldn't be allowed to debate Gore on it. I'd enjoy watching it. Gore (regardless of your personal views on him personally) has enough knowlege about the topic that he should be able to handle a debate.. If he can't then find the most versed actual scientist that supports it and have them go at it.
Oh Gore.. I like ya bud... But damn man, grow a pair... lol

Gore is a self impressed jackass, who’s making some good money off global warming. His own primary residence uses as much energy in a month as 20 average US homes.
http://www.tennesseepolicy.org/main/...article_id=367
He also refused to take his own energy pledge when pressed on it in a senate hearing.
http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.c...e-887baa7069ca
................................................
“There are hundreds of thousands of people who adore you and would follow your example by reducing their energy usage if you did. Don’t give us the run-around on carbon offsets or the gimmicks the wealthy do,” Senator Inhofe told Gore.
“Are you willing to make a commitment here today by taking this pledge to consume no more energy for use in your residence than the average American household by one year from today?” Senator Inhofe asked.
Senator Inhofe then presented Vice President Gore with the following "Personal Energy Ethics Pledge:
As a believer:
· that human-caused global warming is a moral, ethical, and spiritual issue affecting our survival;
· that home energy use is a key component of overall energy use;
· that reducing my fossil fuel-based home energy usage will lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions; and
· that leaders on moral issues should lead by example;
I pledge to consume no more energy for use in my residence than the average American household by March 21, 2008.”
Gore refused to take the pledge.Last edited by Halftrack; April 25th, 2009 at 08:54 AM.
