SEMI-AUTO IN WOODS
hello all..question,i like to take walks in woods with my dog on state forestland..i have a browning semi-auto and a LTC permit..
i know i cant hunt with a semi -auto which i think is not right..
if coyote would attack me or look like he was going to get in fight with my dog,can i use the semi-auto to shoot the coyote ?
i dont have a sportsman license as semi-auto is not allowed for hunting ..
i think this would be self defense to protect me or dog but thought you all might have run into this question before..
also i still think its wrong you cant use a semi-pistol for shooting a coyote..heck, my other pistol i can shoot 7 shots just as fast as the semii-auto ..

Re: SEMI-AUTO IN WOODS
There's no problem at all. There are plenty of reasons to shoot an animal other than hunting.

Re: SEMI-AUTO IN WOODS
I would check with the game commission since your on state game lands. Coyotes are a state managed species if you got caught shooting one with a semi auto you could get into trouble. You would have to be able to prove it was in self defense.
They are pretty strict on that stuff

Re: SEMI-AUTO IN WOODS
I think that laws of self defense would apply and over rule game law. It's against the law to kick dogs but not if he is trying to bite you.

Re: SEMI-AUTO IN WOODS
i understand if i am HUNTING coyote, yes, thats not legal as i am using semi-auto..but as said, i think if coyote looks aggressive, attacks me or dog, then i think i have right to shoot..
i reaaly think that semi-auto rule is bad one and should be changed..
they could make rule that you can only carry 3 bullets in your semi as you do with a shotgun, that would be fine with me..
any chance they may change this rule?

Re: SEMI-AUTO IN WOODS
I'm pretty sure your not allowed to carry a loaded semi auto rifle on gamelands. But you are allowed to carry your handgun since you have a permit. To be safe check. I know you can't carry a semi auto handgun while hunting even with a permit to carry.

Re: SEMI-AUTO IN WOODS
yep...as of not too long ago, you can carry a semi-auto handgun while hunting if you have a LTCF.
can't use it, but you can carry it.
