    Default Deer hunting 2024 /2025

    Here we go again.
I got my old mans lifetime deer license and a 2E doe tag a day or 2 after online sales began.
Recently, I also applied for a 2A tag and will also go after a 2B tag when the next round is available.
Its been a bit warm to go to the range but decided to build a platform stand at my Homer City property.
I had some strap on steps installed last season, got 3 2x8 x 8 foot treated lumber and put the stand up a few days ago.

Last year I passed on a few smaller deer and ended up not getting one for the first time in quite a few years.

This years candidates at camp are an 11, 10, a nine and about 3 eight pointers. Looking good until they crawl into a hole about mid Sept.

2 of the eights were checking out my handiwork while I was having coffee on Wed,

None are big deer or exceptional racks but hopefully one will be my trophy.

I'll finish the treestand next trip, start shooting the rifles and verifying crossbow zero.

Ahh, the life of an old retired guy.

Good luck with one of those guys. BTW - don't forget your safety harness.

What - no recliner or zip line? What took you so long to get your senior life time license? Got all of my tags that I'll need for Pa. for 26 bucks, being old has some advantages. I haven't given up on Wyoming yet, I'll have 5 bonus points for both pronghorn and mule deer and figured I'll go next year before I get to damned old. Good luck this season.

Just got my 3rd doe license, which means I won't see any deer.

Any one of those deer would be a trophy to me. Good luck.

Finished my deer stand. 15 feet up. 2 feet wide. The cantilevered side lets me swing almost 270.

15 feet high cantilever stand by poofy27, on Flickr20240823_114521 by poofy27, on Flickr

Nice open woods with decent shooting out to 40 plus but i believe 35 or so will be my limit.
    Ill put distance markers out.

She said I should have made it higher, told me I should wear a parachute and said she would pack it for me. That's a loving wife.

I bought a couple 2x4s to put up as rails but the trees are only about 12 inch diameter and would be more of a nuisance to deal with.
The safety strap ( Loggy Bayou vintage) isn't designed to deceleration your fall. It's simply a stabilizing strap. With about 18 inches of slack, I can stand or sit.
I.thought about the full body harness with the deceleration lanyard and may still decide to use that.
If the location of the stand proves to be ok, I'll put additional support under it to widen the platform or take it down and move it next season. I've looked into a ladder to climb
