I bought a gallon and forgot we already have 2 gallons. This may be a good time to try it.
We buy 2% all the time. The biggest issue I've read about is that the fat doesn't readily mix back in when thawed, so I wonder if 2% would be less prone to that than whole milk.
I'm seeing that you can expect 3 to 6 months in the freezer.
Not me, milk doesn't last long enough in my place to need to freeze it. :)

The wife and I were just talking about this the other day. It came up when milk started disappearing like TP.
She said that her mom used to do it all the time when she was a kid, and it was fine when they thawed it out.
I said that I didn't believe her because those were the days before refrigeration.

Absolutely. The recommendation is for a max of 3 months, but I've done it for up to a year. I'm lactose intolerant, and found lactaid for .50/half gallon (years ago) at one of those salvage grocery places, and bought a BUNCH while they had it.
It will separate a little, but give it a good shake after it's thawed, and you're good to go. It could also potentially absorb flavors from other items in your freezer, but it won't "spoil" while it's frozen.

My mom did it with whole milk all the time. Couldn't tell the difference.
Re: Post your Preps/Tips and ideas.
I never froze milk but I do freeze eggnog every year when it comes into season. I've forgotten about it and had some for over a year and it was just as good as fresh.
Re: Post your Preps/Tips and ideas.
I was going to freeze some milk, but the freezers are packed.

Is there any truth to the rumour I heard that it has a short shelf life after it is thawed?
Re: Post your Preps/Tips and ideas.
Due to a lactose intolerance issue with a couple of my family members we started bringing in almond milk a few years ago. Yeah it's not real milk but serves the purpose of milk for us. Good think is it has long expiration dates.
Re: Post your Preps/Tips and ideas.
Wife freezes milk also...…..no issues.
