I am jealous!
My Dad talked me out of one of these when they were $30 at the Schuylkill Haven Laneco in the late 80s.
I will never forgive him for that!
I would stick to using quality, moderate loads in 7.62x51. No commercial .308; no Israeli or.Austrian.7.62x51 (tend to run hotter). You might never have a problem, but I prefer to play it safe.
The FR7 is known to have a weaker receiver than your FR8, and some FR7 owners like to use German blue training ammo. Its reasonably accurate out to 50 yards, was dirt cheap for a long time, and will feel like a 5.56 or less when you shoot it. Just an idea.
OK
WHO RESURRECTED THE NECROTHREAD?
Stop playing with my emotions!!!
Here's my baby. Sorry, I have no fancy rocks. I'll check but the Gunbroker sale price of $239 rings a bell.

Although I believe the large ring action is strong enough for commercial loads, I may try to work a load and if I can see reasonably well through the rear sight, may take it at least on our old man's rifle doe season.
Her sister, the 1924 dated Spanish 1893 /1916 Oviedo 7mm Mauser has first dibs this year but if the first day passes with no results, I may take this gal out.
No, I won't use the plastic 10 grain ammo. I found it doesn't expand and a deer would likely flip me off if I used it.
Some data I thought interesting. hope it works.
The guy FALPhil on the firing line forum ( This thread. Spanish FR-8 - thoughts, facts and opinions please) wrote an article (PDF link in post)about 7.62 x 51 vs .308 which might clarify the difference. The thread has some interesting data on FR8s.
I did,'t want to copy paste his work.

Yeah, I wasn't really recommending it for hunting. It does make for cheap, fun blasting ammo, though.
I've always debated the blue ammo. Love my FR8, want a FR7 next. With the blue stuff, I'm sure it's fine in the bolts but it doesn't cycle in semi's does it?
Is $99 shipped good for 500 rounds?
