Who's hoarding my empty shells.
So got a new barrel for the glock and decided to try it this weekend at the cabin, forgot the site pusher, but tried it anyway.
The range is 75 yards, set up with 25, 50 then 75 give or take. I'm the only one that uses it, other the friends that come over. It's been there 7 years. Most know to pick up trash left behind, and spent shells. I don't reload, so no use to me. Now the old lady likes to throw the shells into a mason jar for looks. So for the most part, its clean of casings. After a hard rain I find they pop out sometimes and get them. So for the most part you know where the casing is ejected to. 75 is at the bench, then at 50,25
At 75, all 556 308 stuff, 50 is handgun as is 25.
Got done siteing in, went to clean up the mess. As I start looking for emptys, I come across a pile of 223,40,9, .50 beuwolf, 45, and 22 all in a pile. Like I picked them up, and dump them there, but they are old, like two years or more.
No big deal, throw them in my pocket and look for my shiney ones.
Again, I find a clump of shells near what looks like a chipmunk hole, 50+ old shells, again no where near it was shot.
So pack rat, or chipmunk?

I assume that 45 is a acp not Lc.
Squirrels squirreling away as squirrels will do.

I wouldn't worry about it unless/until he tries to steal your nuts. ;)

I have a 40/60 percent of loss in grass and no squirrels or chippies present! Those shells are hard to find when the case is sticking straight up like looking down over the top of a chimney. Especially 9mm. And if the sun isn't on the ground and your eyes are not as good as they were, they don't show up! At the range, I pick my shells up and then drag a 1/2" OD plastic pipe that's 2 feet wide over the area to knock any cases over on their sides. Works like a charm! Why go to the bother? I shoot 6.5 Grendel and those empties are needed!
