Getting Non resident permit
Hello all, what a great layout for this site.. i wish my home states forum was as well thought out.
Im going to be in chambersburg soon enough and am wondering if there are any friendly departments that will issue me a non resident PA permit.
I hold a resident permit from my home state and have been told that in certain parts of PA, getting a non res permit is as simple as walking into a department applying, payingñ and walking out with a permit. These places that have been vetted however are very far from chambersburg (closer to NY border).
Would appreciate any guidance on this. Thanks.
Re: Getting Non resident permit
I'm afraid I haven't heard much about Franklin County and can't offer an opinion there. I would suggest calling ahead
to any of the offices to feel them out, as they can sometimes just be too busy to accommodate you as a walk-in.
I have heard from Marylanders that they have had very good results with both Adams and York County Sheriffs in
obtaining a PA LTCF "while you wait", and not having to wait more than about 30 minutes or so.
Lancaster County has the most consistent reputation with both PA and out-of-state residents, and although a bit more
out of your way, it's still closer than the PA-NY line.
Good luck!
Re: Getting Non resident permit
Agree that calling ahead would be your best bet.
Re: Getting Non resident permit
I can tell you that Franklin county will not issue the same day, they will make you wait a few weeks. I do not know if they will do out-of-state though.
Re: Getting Non resident permit
It was exactly 3 weeks to get my ltcf, I doubt a non-res would be any quicker.
