 You could be right on that, my memory was always half-assed. For some reason I'm thinking that some Beetles also had Ghia designations, could have been the Super Beetles.

How's the floor pan? That's the Achilles heel on them.
I already ordered the floor pans, they're done. I'll ask the wife if it's a Ghia. She's the one handling the deal. She restored her first one by herself (except for welding), and knows what she's looking at. I've only given it a cursory walk around, she climbed around under it to check on stuff and saw the holes in the floor pan. Personally, I haven't done a lot of work on one. Buddy had a dune buggy built out of one when I was in college, so I helped him do some mods to the engine. Seemed like one of the easiest things to work on at the time. :)

They are very simple and logical in construction. i e the distributor can only go in one way and I cannot believe that the rest of the auto, truck and tractor industries haven't figured that one out yet.

Great pick up. My first car was a VW, not a Beetle though.
Put a 350 Chevy crate engine in it.
It has been done. :D

Re-arsenaled in Anniston in October '76. Ithaca slide, Remington Rand frame, and Flannery barrel (which could be appropriate for either the Ithaca or RR from '44-45).
Reparking has taken its toll on the frame markings but the slide rollmark looks pretty good. Haven't detail stripped it yet, but it looks like all GI parts except possibly the recoil spring plug (the color is right, but it's serrated, not checkered) and the "Made in Italy" mag.
Gave it some quick oil and function checked it--no problems. Trigger is "good military"--breaks around 5 3/4 lbs after noticeable creep, but consistent and not gritty.
Not my first GI 1911, but the first one with a "certificate of authenticity." (Oh, and it doesn't rattle nearly as much as the one I was issued in the 80's!)

Bought some baubles and bolt-ons for the vz.58: muzzle brake for left-hand shooters, skeletonized side rail, low profile optic mount. Cheap NCStar prismatic scope on order.
