The gun buff is strong in here.
Prefer a Colt Mustang as my backup choice.
It all depends on where I'm going. I'll carry as many guns as I think I'm going to need.
Smith and Wesson Model 642 in a Desantis ankle holster.
I always carry a BUG in my right front pocket either a .38 Special J Frame or a Rohrbaugh 9 mm.
I stopped carrying a backup gun. All it did was make a "beep, beep, beep" sound. Nearly drove me nuts.
I used to carry a bug regularly.
I usually had a compact Glock ( 32, 23, 19)on my belt and a Kahr P9 Covert as a bug.
I've gone through some ankle holsters but eventually kept the DeSantis Apache even over the Lou Alessi one.
I've worn out close to a half dozen over the years but they work well for me so haven't gone to the Galco, whatever the name is.
The DeSantis never let the Kahr shift around, even if I was running to the coffee truck, climbing through ceilings, in ditches, up and down ladders or using that mode for deeper concealment at dinners etc.
I occasionally still wear a Bug but since retirement, I have made that bug my primary quite often, either in a Mitch Rosen clipper or a Kydex Pockit Lockit for front pocket carry.
I recently traded in the leather Mitch Rosen for an IWB Kydex and the Kahr has become my go to.
I have always carried 2 7 round mags in my front left pocket. They aren't uncomfortable but occasionally lose a round.
The problem with ankle carry ( least optimal choice ) is access. I've asked other guys who carry like that and no one actually practices drawing the weapon from the ankle.
Driving, as mentioned, its great.
It's very accurate but so is every gun if you spend the time to train with it.
Yes. My backup carry is a Ruger LCP II chambered in 380acp. It is situated in an aliengear shapeshift holster with the 'pocket carry' addon something or another it is called. I am bad and sometimes carry it as a primary weapon. It will do the job, but I desire more firepower. The pocket holster is great.
I am not a big fan of ankle holsters. I have not had good luck with them and if they shift even slightly (no pun intended) it drives me nuts. I can pocket draw faster than reaching for a gun in an ankle holster. But if it works for you- please by all means practice that draw.
Nope can say that I do
