Re: Anybody using the Tobyhanna public range soon?
I just take on the role of RO (in a non overbearing way) anytime im at Tobyhanna for the safety of everyone there. 99% of people are perfectly fine with it and cooperative, and i think most appreciate someone taking the initiative.
Some young alpha male types, who are always the worst offenders, will give you a dirty look when you tell them to stop handling their guns while people are down range, but that's their problem.
Re: Anybody using the Tobyhanna public range soon?
Met two gents shooting today 10-22,Glock 43x ,and a sig .Pleasantries all around and safe.Helped the Glock owner his rear sight was drifted all to the left,He just got the gun and after conversation was surprised the LGS let him walk out after purchase without a courtesy inspection .Wont mention the LGS the owner of the firearm will be making a trip back to the shop to rectify issue . Jack the brass killer is up and about trying to sell his book again and not much brass to be had except for wolf steel Bugs are all over at the range also .
Re: Anybody using the Tobyhanna public range soon?
I have never been to an SGL before. Will I run into any issues with an M1 Garand and full 8 round clips?
I'd like to function test 2-3 clips, sight in the rifle, and leave.

Buy your permit, if applicable, and read the rules.

it'd certainly be safer.
good luck in it though, builders are snatching everything in the area to squeeze out cookie cutter homes for the mass urban exodus.
Make sure you read up on local ordinances and don't even look at something in an HOA.
i've not been to a SGL range in 4 or 5 years after wasting an hours drive each way due to unsafe conditions.
Re: Anybody using the Tobyhanna public range soon?
There are a few gun clubs around as well, Blue Ridge Cherry valley is the closest one to your area. A friend and I looked at it 37 years ago and it looked like a good setup but we were working on projects and never followed through. I eventually joined Palmerton rod and gun off 209 and taught my kids to shoot there as well as their single parent friends. Just started getting back into it a couple of years ago and joined. Close in targets, 50 yard, 100 yard, 200 yard and 300 yard plus a lot of acreage for hunting. Meeting are 3rd mon of the month.

Thats slowing down, houses are no longer selling in a week anymore.
Re: Anybody using the Tobyhanna public range soon?
Went today. Overall I had a good time. Didn't bite my thumb and only lost one piece of previous HXP brass.
Range was pretty sparse and thankfully the people I shared the rifle range with were good people. Definitely avoiding weekends, with a firing line of that size you're bound to run into issues.
Is there always an old man there creeping on shooters to pick up brass? Tall guy in an old Grand Cherokee?
