What do i need to do to get started?
I've never been hunting before. I have looked at the state game site and find all of the licensing and seasonal information/exceptions daunting.
I want to hunt squirrels and starlings.
So what what licenses do I need to acquire in order to do this? And can they be purchased online?
My understanding is that i can hunt with an air rifle so long as it isn't bb ammunition. Correct?
Starlings as far as i could tell could be hunted all year except on Sunday. Correct?
And squirrels can be hunted during their season in the winter. You can get 6 a day and hold 15 was it?
Are there any laws or requirements i need to know about? I don't want to find myself fined (or worse). Is there a worst?
Thanks guys!

Re: What do i need to do to get started?
You need to take the Hunter Safety Course to purchase a license.
License year is from July 1 thru June 30 and the sales should start 6/22.
Your general hunting license covers a lot and the book covers a good portion of the rules.
Air rifles are limited, I'm not familiar there.
Bag limits are listed with a daily maximum and a 'field possession' limit for multiple day trips or when staying at a camp

I think they extended the free online hunter safety course till the end of this month. Get it while you still can!!!

How often do you have to take the safety course?
Thank you for the information!

So with that prerequisite out of the way... What else do i need? Just a standard hunting license? I'm not hunting dear i or anything classified as large game. No water fowl.
Just interested in squirrels, starlings, and maybe a rabbit if I'm hungry enough.
Additionally, to use traps, I'd need to take a fur course, but am i allowed to shoot (say a skunk or raccoon) without a trap?
Thank you guys! Seriously the best community here.

Ouch! Good for you though! I had my son take it this spring when it came available and he said it was brutal boring haha. He's 12 and he now has his license.
Usually you had to go somewhere to take the course and it wasn't free, available or always local from what I understand. They did this because of the rona crap going on.

Doing it in person is free. It was doing it online that normally costs money, until the whole Covid situation.
