Hell, we had one in our yard when we lived in Media back in '99.
Oh, they're there. You may just need to do more tracking and less calling. Call too much and they just become habituated to it and get more suspicious when called to.
They will take small pets for dinner right from the yard, which is reason enough for me to introduce them to my Henry 30-30.
Fair amount of sightings in SEPA including my subdivision, although one is too many for me. I view them as an invasive species to be eradicated. Phuk the mammal food chain.
That’s where the bear was a few years ago, before he went over by the Grundy houses.
We have them all around us though I’ve never seen one here. Next door neighbor had one in the back yard one night. Didn’t run away, just stared at him. They sound like they’re having orgies with Kamala during a full moon.
Got out again Thur and hit a few new spots.
Have been trying different areas every time only hit a couple of spots twice ( couple weeks apart )
Went deeper into the heavy woods.
Only one field that I have found and there were fresh bear and deer tracks in it this week ,
Been following a creek and found pond in the one spot looks promosing as there is a swamp near by and rabbit and some mouse tracks in the snow.
Since it is mating season been going more with the female/ breeding calls .
I will only call for a minute or two then sit tight for 5 to 10 minutes do that a few times then wait about 15 minutes after last call .
Dont go loud on the volume and vary it to sound more natural .
I Vary the calls played to keep it fresh .
Been scouting every time out would love to find a bunch of tracks and some scat letting me know the area is used heavier.
Tracks I have been seeing are older and seem to run out after a while .
Was nice to hear them that one time when I was out looking around after work only time I hear them so far .
So far they are lving up to their reputation of being wary and not easy to find , which was to be expected .
All the walking with the gear and in the snow will keep you in shape have not seen any other people out either lol
