Gunshot Decibel levels and distance
Anyone have a good source on the noise (in decibels) gun shots make (typical handgun ad rifle calibers) by distance? What is the "300 foot rule?" Best answers might come from ranges that have dealt with the ubiquitous bitchy neighbor who files nuisance e noise reports but has been shown to be a knucklehead in court.

Anticipating "that guy" who will object to my shooting on own 50 acres in a zoned rural area. Zoning says 250 feet off property line, and potential "that guy" lives (house) another 1200 feet from property line.
And if you know, or can point me where I can get answers, what if a small training group creates the gun shots (multiple handguns or rifles)?
Re: Rural Land, Gunshots and Neighbors
Is there any snow shoveling involved?

Re: Rural Land, Gunshots and Neighbors
I'd imagine there will be some variance in noise depending on elevation, other objects like trees being in the way, air pressure, humidity, etc. The only way to know is to get a decibel meter out there and find out.
One neighbor of mine who is almost exactly half a mile from the gunshots on my range says the clang from the steel gong is the loudest thing, at least to his ears.

Re: Gunshot Decibel levels and distance
Sound level vs distance is an inverse square relationship.
This is a fairly good, not great explanation but more importantly has a calculator you can use:

Re: Rural Land, Gunshots and Neighbors
I’d be pissed if I owned 50 acres in rural country and couldn’t shoot on my own land
Actually, I’d just be happy to have the 50 rural acres
Re: Rural Land, Gunshots and Neighbors
Go to your local township office get the local zoning rules for discharge on your property (which apparently you did). If your following them then and not being a complete A-hole 7 days a week with a gun which your probably not being then who cares how loud it is.
Re: York Co Noise of Gunshots and Neighbors
I would think county, township, or local police officials could give you that info. I was told that a good back-stop and noise courtesy were the big issues.
Or you can just get a suppressor.
