38 s&w reload
Hi fellas, it's been a few years since I reloaded 38 S&W. I kept my reloading data from the last time I did this. When I started today, my cheat sheet said 2.1 g of bull's-eye power. I was wondering did I miss copy to my cheat sheet, it looks like there's hardly anything in there. I use 50 grain bullets from Missouri bullet company. Can that be right ? Joe

Re: 38 s&w reload
A 50 grain bullet seems insanely light, did you mean 150? Hodgdon's website only lists data for HP-38 and 231 for powders with a 145 grain bullet https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/reloading-data-center. I can go look in my older manuals if you want, although I think I'd just go with trailboss, its kind of my universal solution for cartridges like that.

Re: 38 s&w reload
Could be. I've reloaded a ton of .38 spl with 2.7 grs of Bullseye under a 148 gr HBWC, and the .38 S&W is a shorter case. I do believe your bullet weight is off.

Re: 38 s&w reload
Never reloaded .38 S&W, but I have a box. Seems like a long round nosed bullet so it would've been more than 50 grains I'm thinking. Especially when most .22 are 40 grains. Powder charge sounds in the ball park. ETA: After a little research looks like you should be 140-160 grains on the bullet and the lighter charge seems to indicate the heavier bullet.

Re: 38 s&w reload
your right on the bullet weight, it should have been 150 g bullet. 50 was a typo error

Re: 38 s&w reload
Speer #12 shows 148gr wadcutter over 2.5 grs (701 fps) - 2.7 grs (748 fps) of Bullseye so 2.1 might be a tad bit light.

Re: 38 s&w reload
probably very close to a starting load at 2.1 for 150 gr
