Compress the spring/pin combination through the hole, slide the tool back
slightly, which holds the detent and spring in place, and install the pivot pin, which captures cursed flying parts in place.
Not 100% fool proof,but pretty close.:D
I like that. I'm going to check brownells.

Just found this on AR15.com.
Using a $1.00 dollar clevis pin pretty clever.

It's the act of spending money that allows the lost part / tool / flashlight /whatever to re-appear in this dimension.
It's related to the lack of umbrella causing rain, and ice storms caused by me not installing studded snow tires.
Re: AR build shot the detent
If you do lose a small part, if you can find a large strong magnet, it makes finding lost parts slightly easier. I also usually put down a old white sheet around the work bench. Not fool proof but it helps.... LOL
Re: AR build shot the detent
Tractor supply beats the $15 tool at brownells. Thanks. Great idea.

Thank pennlineman he gave me the idea to search from his post.
Re: AR build shot the detent
Free tool is a large paperclip and the cartridge from a bic pen. A metal
Cartridge from a ball point pen works as well. Put the spring in position, and with the guts of the pen, begin to seat the detent. When you see the detent pass the hole on the receiver, use the paperclip to hold the detent in position. Insert take down pin. Done.

I will have to try this. I didn't think the spring would compress hat far. I thought the hole was to drain water.
