prob in the same grey area that tasers are in NJ, legal to own, technically legal to carry, but waiting the first case of the state going against the little guy.

Great until you get the cop or DA who says "if you weren't justified in using deadly force you weren't justified in using any force"

I think that's easily debunked considering the continuum of force that cops apply. Of course that debunking takes lots of money on your part.
It wasn't the Byrna but I saw another similar item that wouldn't ship to NJ. NJ believe it or not caps legal pepper spray at 0.75oz, maybe that's why. It's so laughable I ignore that restriction when I travel there. I don't care if I go to court over THAT. The only sprays that are that size are those dinky keychain ones.
Personally I'd carry that Byrna in NJ and take my chances in court. Not advocating for breaking the law but civil disobedience, unjust laws and all... Don't infract me.

Firearm or firearms" means any handgun, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, assault firearm, automatic or semi-automatic rifle, or any gun, device or instrument in the nature of a weapon from which may be fired or ejected any solid projectile, ball, slug, pellet, missile or bullet, or any gas, vapor or other noxious thing
It would be considered a firearm under the definition in NJ law, so it would be treated as such IMHO.

The only non-lethal self defense weapon in NJ is pepper spray, in a container that holds no more than .75 oz. If you even have a large flashlight in your car, you had better make sure the batteries aren't dead.
