Re: Straight wall cartridges in special reg. areas are now legal
I killed a lot of deer with .357 mag. It works great with 158 gr jhp. Very easy to handle in a carbine.
I started looking for a 45-70 as soon as I read the game commission started would allow straight wall cartridges.

Any idea if the straight wall case could live in a semi-auto?
I'm thinking .350 Rem. in an AR or perhaps .30 cal. carbine in an M1 carbine.

The 450 Bushmaster is a good choice too if you are looking to run a bolt gun instead of a lever.

Whacked a doe with .450 Bushmaster last season. With the powderpuff load (subsonic) that I used it would make someone who is recoil sensitive a happy camper.

I "played around" with a Ruger American yesterday with a camo synthetic stock and thought it would make a great bear driving gun. Hmmmmm....I still have friends that live in special regs areas.

This would be great. It means I could not not get a deer with my rifle as well as my shotgun!
Kidding aside, it is great. Love carrying my Marlin 1894 in the woods. Could do it in Allegheny now. I have a box of Buffalo Bore heavy hard cast 180 gr. Their specs say 1850 fps out of the Marlin. I have also loaded my own with 158gr swc but haven't put them over the chrono yet to see where they are.

I think if you see a deer or a small group of deer, all you have to do is mention that your magazine tube is stoked with a Buffalo Bore product and they will start dropping like flies. It's hot stuff and makes great hunting ammo.

I wonder if the PGC will email the people on their web contact list with specifics, if any.
The PGC minutes do not address specifics and I think I read those are upcoming but without a hard date.
My 20" Ithaca rifled bbl slug gun ( this SG has made the furthest shot I ever took on a deer at 95 paces) is good to 150 so I really don't need a straight wall cased rifle but it would just be a "cool" factor.
Not sure at 71YO that I want to spend a K on another rifle. Well, Maybe but deals wil be hard to find, especially now.
I may look into having my Ruger Redhawk bbl dovetailed for a scope mount.
