Me Thinks that unless your leg is halfway down the gators throat I would not shoot !Gatore are protected by FWC and they will investigate you and cost you a ton of money .Gators only get aggressive if you are in their breeding area, they have babys ,or your dog is tied up inviting the gator to a meal .Lived in Florida a rural area never had issues,Yes gators on property or in pool or after hurricane they can be fould in the weirdest places .Dog is a fine meal,so says mel Gibson !
Even though I don't hunt, I view myself as apex predator and have no morals against eliminating anything that might deprive me of my position.
Well put Walleye
I just hope you wont get caught while trying to kill it
I'd probably get a pet armadillo to walk on that pink studded leash.
I was stationed in NW Florida in the military. Gators there, too. Pretty much all of Florida is gator country. The good news is you're getting the hell out of Maryland.
Alligator attacks are actually pretty rare. As advised, keep your dog out of and away from fresh water and you should be fine.

I ran over a three foot alligator in 2000 ,That MF Blew out the tire and I waited an hour before FWC and AAA would come to fix it,they thought the FWC had precedent over me being stranded in the 95 degree heat ,Good thing air cond was not affected and I always carried a go bag with cold drinks and fruit ! Oh the gator was nowhere to be found ! Near Arcadia FL a rural area we were passing thru !
I think the OP is making a bigger deal about gators. While, there have been domestic pets that have been eaten by gators, I would imagine that's pretty rare.
I've hunted gators in the water, but I cannot say I've ever heard of people shooting them on land. I think OP has way too much time on his hands to have these sort of thoughts. There's always going to be dangers when you have pets.
