You need to bring a copy of your earned income (Berkheimer) tax form or receipt that you paid this tax. This is Monroe Countys requirement that you are a tax paying resident of the county.
and a drivers license shows you residence...that should be plenty. what if you're a new resident? You have to wait a year or so until this tax bill comes around???
I don't seem to recall that being a requirement under the UFA.
This^^^
I'd love to hear their argument that they need you to prove your residency even more when you're standing there with the proof of it (driver's license) in your hand.
This is when redundancy turns into absurdity; the Sheriff has no right to demand your tax records.
thE tAX FORM is not required by state law but the sheriff's office is asking for it and insisting on it.
THe berkheimer tax form doesnt have to be filled out just as long as it has your name on the front sheet. THey are not going to take the Berkheimer they are just going to photocopy it and give it back to you.
You are correct, he has no legal right to ask for this. However, he does, and will not issue an LTCF without it. Won't even accept your application. Not cool, not the way it should be but that's the way it is and that's the way it's going to stay until someone comes up with the money and cojones to challenge it. ;)
One more thing in general, we don't call it Berkheimers where I live (Tobyhanna Twp, Monroe County). It's Central Tax Bureau (in Berwick).
Well I don't know how they do in in more recent times, but when I moved here in 1994, I did my drivers license transfer down at the old state police barracks in Swiftwater.
What hit me as strange back then was that they did not want to see any papers on where I lived, and they asked me for my street address verbally while they filled out the paperwork. Then they made you take an eye test on the spot and later mailed you a photo card for the license photo place, which was down in Tannersville.
A very archaic process replaced by the current "DMV" over in Saylorsburg. Maybe this is why he requires the Berkheimer thingy. Any thoughts?
the reason they ask is because some of the developments up here are split in 2 counties with the address name showing in another county but its really monroe
